Congratulations to the Animal Welfare Society for 30 years of service!  Founded in 1982 by a small group of people concerned with the growing number of euthanasia rates of healthy dogs and cats, the Animal Welfare Society has grown into a well-known and respected no-kill shelter in Southeastern Michigan.  In the past 30 years, we have rescued and saved over 20,000 animals from death and troubling situations.  Our team members have a strong love and dedication to the animals and our mission.  We would like to thank our volunteers, Board members, contributors and supporters for 30 wonderful years.  Let's make the next 30 even better as we strive for a no-kill nation.  Please help us continue to educate on the importance of spaying and neutering every pet in every household, help us teach our children how to properly care for and treat animals and please continue to support us so we can continue to grow and save the countless animals in need.

The Animal Welfare Society is a no-kill 501(c)(3) animal rescue organization.  We are committed to finding homes for unwanted puppies, dogs, cats and kittens.  The Animal Welfare Society strives to educate the public on responsible pet ownership and the importance of spaying and neutering.

Surrendering your pet…

If you have a pet you wish to surrender to AWS, you must bring the pet into our shelter for an evaluation.  If space permits, we may be able to take in your pet at that time, however, most of the time we are full.  You may then be asked to hold onto your pet until it is adopted or space becomes available.  You will need to fill out a surrender form and we will take a picture of your pet and put him or her on our website for adoption.  You may wish to attend adoptions events with your pet to find him or her a home quicker.

Wildlife...

Unfortunately we are not equipped to handle wildlife needs.  You may contact the Rochester Hills Humane Society Wildlife Department at (248) 852-7420 or the DNR office nearest you (See www.michigan.gov/dnr for more info).

Strays…

We do not come out to pick up strays.  If you find a stray animal, you should contact the pound in the city which the stray was found or your local police department.

How to find a Lost Pet...

Act Fast!  Animal shelters in Michigan
are required to keep lost animals without identification (No Collar) only four days and with identification (Collar with Dog License & Rabies Tag) only seven days before adopting out or euthanizing (we do not euthanize) the animal. Here is what you can do to locate a lost pet. Lost Pet Document

We here at the Animal Welfare Society try to rescue as many precious animals from the kill shelters and gas chamber pounds before its too late for our furry friends. We do not believe any animal should be sitting in a cold dark kill shelter simply because a negligent owner threw them away like garbage. Therefore, we are calling on all our fellow animal lovers. We need foster homes for these animals immediately. The more foster homes we have, the more lives we can save. Please sign up to be a foster home today. We provide you with all the supplies you need. You just supply the love and warmth of a safe home for an unwanted puppy, dog, cat or kitten. Thank you for your support and for your interest in saving a homeless animal.

Please fill out the Foster Home Application
and email it to animalwelfaresociety@yahoo.com
